I’ve been working in IT for over 50 years. Every few years, the industry comes up with a new “silver bullet” (Fred Brooks’ phrase) to “slay the software monster.” None of them have. A few years ago, it was low-code/no-code systems. Prior to that, it was machine learning. Prior “miracles” include code generators, CASE tools, object technology, SOA, 4th generation languages, and so on. All useful in the proper setting, but none of them did away with the hard work of building the right software in a sustainable manner.
AI is just the latest silver bullet.
