I've been an artist for my entire life. In my oldest memories from early childhood I had a pencil and paper in my hands. I was the kid who had doodles on all his school work and often spent recess drawing. I've filled stacks of sketchbooks and reams of loose paper over the years. And I can't tell you how many times I've hated my own work. Sometimes doing art sucks. Sometimes you spend hours working on a piece, pouring your heart and soul into it, imagining how amazing it'll look when its done. And then it sucks. It doesn't look the way you intended. Even if it's not actually that bad the only thing you can see is the flaws. And it just makes you feel so intensely irritated and inept. And if you're as stubborn as I was as a kid, then you refuse to take advise that might help you improve. You don't want to do the boring things like learn anatomy or perspective. You just want to get to the fun part and can't see how learning the fundamental building blocks can help make art even more satisfying. It kinda feels like that's where Shad and some other AI users are stuck. They're stubborn just like I used to be and can't see how learning the fundamentals can give them a deeper understanding of how and why art works. They don't see all of the little creative decisions that artists make. And they don't understand how those decisions affect the way that a work of art feels. Shad doesn't seem to understand where his own art is lacking. He's conflated self improvement with using a machine that takes his initial sketch and slaps on a coat of someone else's paint. That machine might add detail, lighting, shadow, and texture without him having to learn those techniques himself. But it can't cover up the fact that his initial sketch displays a lack of understanding of the basics. To those who know what they're looking for, the AI layer only makes the flaws more obvious. But Shad and other AI users only seem to see the details in the coat of paint. They can't see the forest for the trees.
