Interestingly, what enabled the researchers to find all those fake papers and frauds are artificial intelligence. Back in 2011? 2012? they found that BigData can find hidden patterns mathematically and that the computer is fast enough to study it. Also, around 2014 ANN takes off and basically what we know as "AI" now were starting to gain traction. I had my paper automatically checked for plagiarism back in 2013!
So I think plagiarism is just evolving, now that it's available for almost everyone. But it's available for everyone, so I think the net good will be larger? Maybe...
