Since we can say that if autopilot detects it has created an imminent and unavoidable crash, it turns itself off; We can also say that Tesla are fudging the numbers, but with an actor as dishonest as Elon Musk, it shouldn't be surprising. I'd say right now, driving with Auto pilot is straight up more dangerous than driving without, it can't even tell the difference between tram tracks and road, runs over bollards, has more blind spots than a normal driver, etc. Auto Pilot is also only a level 2 self-driving system, when Tesla eventually try to push for level 3 and level 4, I would also expect it to create more issues as it tries to handle more and more complex situations.
In the whole self-driving game, Tesla is also behind, Mercedes is at level 3 already. It almost feels like since the change away from Nvidia and lidar, Tesla has made no progress at all towards actualizing a true self-driving system. As for humans driving with 2 eyes, the brain is an immensely complex system and also our heads rotate, the cameras on a tesla are fixed in position.
