Angel engine seems like a sort of minimal art on floppy disks. The initial score carries it.
Unfortunately it kind of falls off after the first episode shock. Maybe an environment of similar human made art to ease into the genre style might put the audience under a better spell of illusion. Either that or a grasping context of involved gameplay.
I'd categorize this as AI-assisted art. True AI art comes from the first cognitively-ranged clanker. (That's what scares people.)
It's clear that the creator carried the work with compositing, hand-selecting a music score, creating guiding images for the model, choosing the voice actors, and writing the work's story/storyboard.
I see little difference between them and a cinema director beyond personality & style of management. It's pretty much the same job.
The people complaining about AI art aren't movie directors, it's the people who help in manifesting a director's vision with their own expressive abilities.
The director starts to complain when the viewer starts to create their own personalized videos, because then their industry fully collapses due to the money drought.
At this point in time AI seems like a magic rubix cube with people taking turns messing with it, then showing and sharing the cool thing they figured out how to do, like a lot of other tech tools.
PS: Hold on... Angel Engine is just scrapbook/magazine art. An image gen engine pumps out trashy images in catalog, then the creator makes puppets from the images and sequences. Thus making it art, purely by choice and choosing of creative direction. It's a similar methodology to graffiti on dying buildings.
The only difference is the varying fidelity of the source material (if that really is a problem). Everybody hating on this specific style wouldn't care of it was printed, cut out, digitized again then worked on from there.
They fixate on hard work over expressiveness of the work. I see language. This seems like xenophobia between generations over talking about the medium's potential itself.
The vibe changes when you have two intelligent and pretty normal young children (siblings, maybe) using the tool to talk between themselves in a well taken care of environment, rural and put together. If education is good and art is language, then the problem fades because aesthetics differ.
It's the same thing for a lot of things in America. You can have foreign rurals do the same actions we do, but it hits different because they have their own cultural protocol which isn't as hostile or self-destructivly driven by wealth due to poor governance.
