I think protecting jobs from automation is a foolish undertaking. Protected industries are are a burden on society, stunting economic growth, limiting economic mobility, calcifying social structures, promoting graft and opening opportunities to outside disruption.
The answer to job loss is a strong social safety net, easy access to education, business friendly regulation and bureaucracy and allows new industries to capture access labor supply and housing regulations that make it easy for people to move to places with more economic opportunities.
