I believe that the revolutionary insight that AI has provided humanity over the last 5 years or so is not how clever its tools have become but rather how predictable and menial human intelligence really is. That it can so easily replace human contribution in our everyday lives is humbling. That it can so easily do so relying on probabilistic tricks is humiliating.
If I was king it would be law in my kingdom that AI could only be used to augment human intelligence instead of replacing it. I believe there could be a productive middle ground that maximizes the benefit across the board. But the sad fact is my kingdom would then likely be among the least productive nations on the planet within a few generations, because there seems to be no limit to the degree with which we humans are willing to humiliate ourselves with our inventions.
