I’m not an AI stan. I’m actually an artist. As in an actual artist that draws. I don’t consider “AI artist” a real thing. And I also love to write stories, animate, and do voice overs. I understand art and agree with most of what was said here about AI generation being pointless. But I do sorta defend AI to an extent. I don’t GENERALLY like AI. But I do find it fun and entertaining to an extent and feel like there’s such a stigma against it that even less harmful uses of it seem to upset people. Like I feel like generated art and stories come off as what they are, random nonsense. So I don’t feel much connection to it. But sometimes it is interesting to see where AI will take its stories BECAUSE it’s AI. It’s not interesting in the long run of course. I think it’s incredibly immoral to copy other people’s art or voices in a profitable or marketing project without paying or even informing the person. It’s also dangerous and messed up to use it make it seem like someone did or said something they didn’t do, especially along with deepfakes and similar concepts. But if it’s either a non-paying project for fun and is upfront about being fake, I think it’s funny. Like Samuel L. Jackson as Snow White. Or copying a character’s voice for a fan animation. Or AI song covers. Or parodies. Or in the case of Vader who’s voice is AI’d for ongoing Star Wars media as signed off by James Earl Jones and his own family. I ended up messing with it myself in recent months because a co-worker wanted to put a message in a Teddy Bear in her son’s voice that had recently passed away and asked if I knew how to do that. I copied his voice the best I could from what few clips she had and I recorded myself saying the message and turned it into his voice. She cried when she heard it, saying that’s him. And she put it in a bear as a gift for her husband. He liked it too. And my wife was telling me that I was able to do something good for someone. As to the point of connection to the characters, I think it totally makes sense to prefer human created media. Usually that media is ABOUT living people so it makes sense to come from living people. The ideals and personality of living people is what we are entertained by. Like this video. The whole point of the video is to hear a person’s opinions. AI could write it. But AI doesn’t have an opinion. So it could literally say anything. That’s just basic logic. There’s pros and cons.
