Wage doesnt matter , its almost impossible to find an individual out of training school that is willing to work full time and be on time and reliable. Its also almost impossible to find a driver that can effectively be versatile in multiple types of trucks. This is the primary issue and the reason so many trucking companies are going out of business. On the other hand we had a huge influx of foreign hires that shouldn't be allowed to drive on roads based on safety issues. I dont understand it at all. But I do understand automated trucks and they are phenomenal! Im good at what I do, national, international, freight , construction, oilfield, anything that involves a truck i love this industry. But I can tell you right now i can find way more 30 to 60 year olds that are experienced drivers that will man an automated unit. Tell a guy with experience he gets to use an elliptical in the sleeper or study for his masters degree while the truck does a 9 to 16 hour drive to make delivery. Tell him he is going to make a 40 hour work week with 401k match while napping. Who the hell do you think with experience wont jump on that ? Oh ya bud hey we need you in a truck for 72 hours but you'll only have to do around 6 hours of work. We can pay you $20 bucks an hour plus 401k match to basically be a equipment safety supervisor.
