Near future (20-30 years) billions of humans will still exist, but most will be economically surplus, supported by AI-driven production.
Far future (50-100 years) population could collapse to tens or hundreds of millions — mostly “specific humans” chosen/valued for symbolic, cultural, or even biological reasons - difficult to predict.
It’s a shift from a world where everyone is needed (pre-AI, pyramid economy) to one where very few are needed (post-AI, compressed economy).
The existential threat/question...will humans be cherished as rare beings, or managed out as unnecessary clutter?
