As an American who went to a US college, AI was used so rampantly that I always just took the L and did my actual work. Worse grade's sure, but 3.2 versus gambling my degree is a fair trade. Five students in my manor were caught using AI for cheating and got held back.
When I went to a French engineering school to buff my resume up a notch, students typically used ChatGPT as an idiot checking system for homework or worse case, different methods of writing the same thing in an essay to take inspiration. No one was stupid enough to copy/paste the text verbatim into a BE.
I think it goes to show that both parties - students and teachers - should treat AI as a tool that inspires and helps with learning, not as an all-purpose free for all.
