AI replacing software developers is basically hitting the same problem that shipping software jobs to India hit back in the early 2000’s. Current models can produce something that mostly works most of the time, but can’t be relied upon. So the result is software that costs 10% as much to make and has an apparent ceiling of 70% the quality(both numbers are made up). That cost savings led everyone to rush towards it, assuming
the quality would catch up later(if they even understood the difference in quality), but it isn’t. So the result is pain for years until they learn to bring back developer jobs. In this case, probably with AI as a tool to augment developers, rather than replacing them.
