They get the same results while having the AI learn exclusively from its own creations. Just takes a few more generations, so AI art no longer relys on human artists in the new iterations. On the "in the style of" argument, none of those people are wholey original, so being upset that an AI is doing the same thing that all these artists did to even build their "style" is basically just being mad that it does it faster. If you cant learn from a copy righted artist, none of these artists would have the ability to complain since they learned from copyrighted works. They changed over time but no they did not come up with this all on their own. By the logic of the artists feelings in this, anyone who does unrequested fan art is stealing and should pay the person who came up with it. Anyone who draws in a remotely anime style should be paying royalties to the families of the artist who made the series they decided they were going to emulate.
