i saw the writing on the wall eons ago. in the last 5 years i got cross trained on 6 (SIX) different departments in my industry. I am fully trained on two of the entry level ones and fully trained on a second level one.
All because I saw that AI, if it manages to improve geometrically, will screw over my timeline to retirement. Now, it is simultaneously critical to befriend upper management, get my job secure, and secretly plan to retire early.
Hoping that the rulers will take care of us Wall-E style is so much of a pipe dream as thinking you don't need to save for retirement because the apocalypse will happen. NEITHER the apocalypse nor "the economy will be so efficient they will just pay a huge class of deadbeats to exist" will happen. EVER.
