If AI and robotics were to take all jobs, which I suspect they will take most jobs, the capitalist system wouldn't function as it's designed on getting people into work and consuming, there's likely not going to be enough jobs to go around over the coming decades and the real indicator of that will be rising unemployment numbers which will put a lot of pressure on governments to do major changes. I suspect in the US, the system will throw most Americans under a bus, the system has little protection for the people and weak regulations which makes it prime for big corporations to massively profit on AI at the expense of the people, in the case of European countries or any social democracy, I suspect a lot of pressure will build on governments from the people to do major changes to the system, I suspect a major beefing up of social programs that could deliver UBI and UBS, something that AI and robotics will give a lot of resources to do. The key is how the wealth of AI is distributed among the people, in countries like the US, China and many others, things don't look good, in European countries or any social democracy where there are strong social programs in place and big governments that are willing to intervene in the system, these will likely fare much better. At the end of the day, AI and robotics is just a tool that allows us to get far more done and for far less money, how that wealth is distributed is going to be key and this is a big deal among the systems in place like the US extream capitalist system to the European social model, one could very well end up in a Blade Runner like future whereas the other could create a paradise for the people. Eventually the cracks will start to break in the US, if the system thinks it can throw most Americans under a bus, well it will likely create a revolution that isn't likely going to be peaceful and will likely target political groups on the right and big corporations as they will be seen as the real blame, but it does mean that things will likely get a lot worse in the US before things get better whereas in Europe and other social democracies around the world, it won't be easy but I suspect the transition will be a lot smoother as a lot of the fundamentals are already in place to allow a smooth transition with the strong social system, it's just a matter of beefing that up which AI and robotics will give a lot of resources to do just that. Where the US goes wrong here is with having a small government that's hands-off, Americans wanted that but that means the distribution of wealth will always be in fewer hands, AI brings that to a new level, China might not be much better as it's centralised government will likely want tight control over AI as if the people were to have easy access to unfiltered AI, that would potentially be a massive threat to the government, Europe and other social democracies don't have those problems, but regardless, the transition won't be easy for any country as change rarely is, just that it will be much easier for some over others and I think the US and China and others like them will have a hard time with this change. Regardless of all this, eventually AI, robotics and renewable energy could make the cost of products a fraction of the cost now, throw in recycling, reverse engineering and the cost of products could go to almost nil, the current capitalist system wouldn't function in that kind of world and we could be heading in that direction over the next 30-50 years, especially because once momentum builds, it's likely going to be an avalanche.
