Because at some level, before AI, there was always a human acquiring the target, evaluating rules of engagement and deciding to open fire or not. None of that is the case with AI operated drones. No one knows what it is targeting, what potential targets it decides to ignore, and opening a fire.
Sometime ago, I saw a video of kamikaze drone flying by a civilian bystander and continuing to hit its target.
How are you going to be sure an AI controlled drone is going to make the right decision in a situation like this? I find it insane to trust an AI to make that kind of decision, no matter how sophisticated.
