As someone who's been driving as a Rideshare provider for the past 7 years and working in a city that allows the self-driving taxis both from waymo and Tesla I really hope that these things get pulled off the road. Not only do they take away earning opportunities from countless Rideshare providers and allow these companies to constantly reduce the pay of their human drivers while encouraging the use of robots instead at their own employees expense but they are simply unsafe as the sheer amount of hardware and technology that it takes for one of these cars to even mimic human driving creates so many points of catastrophic failure especially mechanical failure of which these machines cannot account for that having them on the road is just a liability. There should always be someone behind the wheel if the machine fails for the same reason why cars have safety features in case the driver fails. On the first day the Tesla taxes were launched in my city one of them committed over 50 Road violations and was allowed to continue to operate without issue. If a human driver did the same they would lose their license their car would be impounded and they'd more than likely be in jail in addition to losing access to their job if they were a Rideshare provider. If you're going to allow these cars on the road taking away human jobs they should be held just as accountable as a human driver for making mistakes. I know there's currently no real legal precedent for self-driving cars but shouldn't have to be. When a new technology is introduced that replaces and fulfills the role of a human driver they should automatically be grandfathered into the same laws that protect people on the road. If one car in a fleet of self-driving vehicles on the same network breaks the law in commits Road violations all of them should be removed from the road and tell the Kink is fixed. The road is not a safe place for trial and error if they cannot operate safely they should not be allowed on the road at all until they are safe.
