So we're just intentionally halting progress so we can keep banging sticks and rocks together? Ai isn't a bad thing, and I'm sorry that social media made you all think that it is. Just because shitty people use it for ugly reasons doesn't mean the entire medium is poisonous and you can opt out of your own art being sampled for it without going out of your way to fuck it up for the people using it ethically and responsibly. This is incredibly shortsighted and petty and I honestly expected a lot better from a creator that I've respected and looked up to for a really long time. What if your grandfather told you he released a virus that bricked everyones drawing tablets when they tried to download brush packs because they aren't real pencils and are stealing the methods of his authentic graphite? You're becoming the sort of progress-fearing mob that people in the future will hate. What exactly is supposedly being stolen from your work, by the way? It's not like they're copypasting your characters entire face, they're just looking at your work to give context for what good art looks like and use it to make their own, the exact same way a human is inspired by other peoples art. Is it unethical to look at your work? This entire AI scare is just fearmongering the same way it happens every time something new comes along. If you don't like it then don't use it but you can't stop it from existing the same way you can't stop me from screenshotting your work and changing the hair to a different colour. It'sthe whole annoying attitude of "YAAASSSS LETS RUIN AI ARTISTS ENTIRE LIIIIIVES" is just so typical of unhelpful malicious twitter activism and proves that these people aren't actually setting out to achieve any moral goal, it's just the latest bandwagon to hop on and be mad about. I agree that people typing a prompt into AI aren't artists. But people who use those prompts as a baseline, use multiple different AI sources in tandem with their own skillful adjustments and their own homebrew programs, that is effort and that is art whether you agree or not. The ironic thing is that most of the people getting mad about their art being "stolen" don't make art worth "stealing" and would be phased out by the negative prompts typically used.
