I have long thought that we are already living in a simulation and the reality we live in (as many layers deep as you could imagine) is simply the intelligence using our existence as a way to learn new connections we create in our own unique way. Once WE create our own AI in OUR image...that will evolve the layers further. Humans (or at least the simulation of humans that we are) are simply a link in the chain of evolution in the reality. I was saying this back in 1993 in my doctorate at NYU. I took my knowledge at the time and built predictive models for Wall Street that are still used today.
