I appreciate Bernie's perspective on such a complicated topic. The changes that are coming will be rapid. The industrial revolution also put many people out of jobs and changed the landscape dramatically. They eventually led to other jobs. I don't know if this moment is the same as the rate of change may be faster and the impact greater. Slowing down progress to retain jobs feels like the wrong approach.
I like the idea of more incentives to companies to spread the ownership among employees. That may lead to an even faster push to AI and robotics to eliminate the number of people the ownership needs to be shared with.
I work at a SaaS company. AI will help with productivity, and initially likely won't cost any jobs, it will simply allow us to do things better and faster. After those improvements, it will mean we will need to hire fewer people. I'd suppose that will happen over the coming 5-7 years. Very hard to see 10ish years into the future on this and what impact that will have. A decade is short for this much change!
