Id like to disagree with one statement of the hypothetical. The cost of living is already too high for people who make good money.
There's no way that universal income would give people the ability to live comfortably and be free to pursue their passions.
I think it will be more like "here is your daily arcade tokens, now select your desired food brick from the vending machine. Youre free to choose your own color of brown, beige, or white sustanence bricks"
Or theyll let everyone starve to death and the people that do survive are in jobs that cant be replaced by ai. Yet.
