I don’t know why we (via governmental regulators) even allow vehicles with “future features” on to operate outside of closed test tracks. Tesla is also developing incredibly sophisticated chip technology as part of AI development, but AI is still far below what used be termed the imbecile level. Sure, supercomputers can win at chess and Go, but those are closed sets of rules. One famous example is asking AI to complete a story about someone checking the refrigerator for their favorite fruit drink. Having found they were nearly out, they improvised, mixing two together, say grape and pineapple and then drank it. The AI computer was asked to complete the sentence, “She drank it and…” The computer suggested , “died.” (This was discussed in a Mindscape podcast and video episode awhile ago.) The point is that technology is decades away from reliably mimicking human intelligence, and we should not allow companies to put the public at risk based on what amounts to marketing stunts.
