This is the main argument I keep telling people when they say that I'm techno-pesimistic about autonomous cars. The problem is, the manufacturer will NEVER take that responsibility. Never. For one simple reason only. ...the AI stuff. Underlying principle of autonomous driving is neural-network based pattern reckognition. Neural network is a black box. It wired itself and you don't know how it works inside. That means you will never be 100% sure how the car is gonna behave in unknown situations. You can be 99.9% sure, but when you make millions of cars per year, that 0.1% of your cars crashing and potentionally killing people, that's a LOT of money in damages that the manufacturer will never be willing to pay. So ... no. You won't responsibly watch a TV show in your driver seat anytime soon.
