This was probably said before, this AI art, even playing devil's advocate here and looking at it from the best point of view, it's an evolutionary Dead End from the very way it was designed to be.. What do I mean by that? Basically, this tool cannibalizes art, kills the artist market that is barely holding together and it will ensure there is no future for either, not the artists, nor the AI art, because what happens when the AI art tools win?.. You don't have anymore new art to pump into it, it is self-evidently an evolutionary dead end, there is no future for this tool and it's only use is to cannibalize all art. For further explanation, here's a definition of what an evolutionary dead end means. "Evolutionary "dead ends" result from traits that are selectively advantageous in the short term but ultimately result in lowered diversification rates of lineages.". This is a very apt way of describing AI art, because if this actually existed in nature, we would have to literally kill it for our own survival.. It is an incredibly powerful tool in the short term, but it does it by Cannibalizing people's works and given how powerful it is at reproducing art in the same styles, it Can and Will Kill the entire art industry of its creative people.. At least for a while, or maybe even a good while, since it will effectively kill all of the artists' industries and with that remove a massive reason for why artists continue to make art in the long term, which is put simply, Compensation, Money, because people need Money for things like, Food, Shelter, Water, as well as all other kinds of necessary Amenities, just so they can make it by to the next month or day, because we still live in a really fucking shit society where only the top 1 or 2%-ers get to enjoy and lavish in the wealth we all help to create. For that reason, I see AI art as it was made now not as a tool of creation, but rather as a tool of cannibalizing a massive industry and an ultimately self-destructive one at that, that is what it's made for and that's what it excels at... People are already seeing how it replicating other people's styles is becoming oversaturated at an alarmingly fast rate, a previously unimaginable rate, but one that we're faced with now, do you really think given a couple years, or decades, people won't feel the same way, or feel even worse about AI art? that is, while considering what the effects this will have on all of the art industry, which will result in it Only recycling and rehashing the same art from today. Even if the future of real human artistry is uncertain and we'll have some growing pains to adapt to new art styles, some people might even hate new styles that come up, that is all still infinitely better than this fucking garbage we're looking at now, this self-evidently evolutionary dead end, at least as it is being done right now.. This model of AI art is unsustainable for full commercial use by companies and in the best case scenario, it is Only sustainable if it was made for personal use by an Artists, with strong regulations against it being used with stealing other artists' years of work.. It's not even hyperbolic when I say that, this tool? It effectively steals Literal THOUSANDS OF YEARS worth of hard work from all the Artists that it stole from combined and it is absolutely despicable how it was used in the recent years.
