I remember seeing the "Next Rembrandt" project a few years ago and getting excited about it. An AI generated a painting based on the works of rembrandr. The project was all transparent about what it was doing (and of course all of Rembrandt's works are now in the public domain). I think it was an interesting way to look at how some of these old paintings were made, and maybe even in the future it could be a tool to help restoration.
To see what became of AI art now is depressing. And should have been expected, to be honest
