Deepseek R1 isn't orders of magnitude more efficient, it's not even 1 order of magnitude more efficient. You can look at the pricing each company offers and see that's simply not true. And it was last gen almost as soon as it was released, with everyone releasing new models shortly after it launched. The company also invested a lot of resources optimizing the inference, rather than using a standard open source stack, but the result is that R2 is nowhere to be seen, with no launch date in sight. Meanwhile the American companies are talking about releasing yet another new generation. OpenAI's o4 is around the corner and o4-mini is being previewed. Google is releasing gemini 2.5 deep think and released a number of AI-integrated products. Grok 4 is coming out in a few days, etc.
