Problem is, nothing is to be done here. Law will neither illegalize AI image generation nor probably help artists. I've read a statement of an US lawyer about this topic and there isn't really anything that can be done since a style of an artist can't be copyrighted (to my understanding) as well as the "stolen" works used for training the AI were never monetized, besides those apps like DreamStudio and this app on your phone. StabilityAI offers their service for free, plus you can install Stable diffusion on any of your PCs. I'll always take the side of whose arguments are more convincing, though after hearing both sides for a few days, neither what artist do to the AI creators nor what some people in the AI community do towards artists is right. Every artist saying they don't want their style to be copied is in the right. And in my opinion, it is never morally acceptable to copy someone's art style without their consent. But I think it is neither okay to file hundreds if not thousands of reports to Kickstarter, Patreon and other sites to completely remove funds of something you don't support (see the case of UnstableDiffusion). This company might not do everything right, though they are trying to make AI art accessible and free for everyone to use. And I'm sure everyone already heard of ChatGPT and has seen interviews titled like "Will AI replace ...?", though in this case everyone came to the agreement, that AI is not capable of replacing anyone right now and probably won't be for an extended period of time. Same is (in my opinion) the case with Stable Diffusion and all other image generation AIs out there. AI art isn't perfect, maybe never will be. Neither will AI replace artists. Though I totally understand if one doesn't embrace the technology (yet) or just doesn't want to support it. Yet, I do not understand, why there is a digital "war" between the artist and AI community at the moment. You said AI stole lot of work. Though, they never sold it for their own profit (at least as far as I know), only the ones I mentioned before. To be clear, I do not support creating or replicating an artist's style with AI, yet I don't see the problem in just simple image generation. There will NEVER be an image that looks exactly like yours if not the model is trained on your images only. That's just not how diffusion works. And if you still are convinced you want to have zero part in all that, if your images have been included in the LAION 5b dataset, there is an option and a form to file a takedown request based on law. I really like art. Hand drawn or digitally, realistic or paintings. Though I also like AI art and I wish for a world where both of these can coexist in peace. I am sick of the war since it will simply lead to nothing and just create more and more tension. To all artists: Never stop creating what you love, and don't be discouraged.
