The biggest issue I see is reconfiguring our current political & economic power structures. Will the Tech Elite, who poured billions of dollars into AI be okay with giving up their colossal return from their investments? I don't think so. You already have Tech Billionaires on social media, like Elon Musk, actively try to convince the masses that they are benevolent people and we should not worry about their agglomeration of power. If these people hold all the power in the world, it'll get to the point where they are stronger than whole governments. When you have more money than most governments, who will you answer to? Lastly, good luck trying to explain to Libertarians & Conservatives, especially in government positions, that we will need UBI. People will demonize it and say it's handouts and more government control over our lives. Leftists and far-right Nationalists will want to ban AI on the basis of them seeing labor as an absolute necessary element of human life. There are a ton of social engineering we have to do well before AGI comes around.
