Things change when there's MASS unemployment and all the wealth is being concentrated into a few huge AI/robotics companies. Politicians want to stay in power and keep their heads so to avoid civil rebellion or just constant violent protests from the lets say 40% of people that are unemployed and literally can't get jobs because they don't exist anymore, they will create a new AI tax on the super profitable companies and use that to give people a Universal Basic Income that covers all simple living costs then people will pursue their own extra income with things they enjoy or find interesting. Even companies will recognise that at some point they need people with incomes to buy their stuff so having a huge portion of the population with no money is bad.
