>AI as a tool
Yes. Ai can be a very powerful tool and many "artists" whine and complain that AI makes things "too easy" and yet, as yourself and many others, they aren't "really" artists. You take a pen on a tablet and you make "air" drawings as you are using some other software as your canvas to digitally creates something. OMG You don't use paints?! What blasphemy! And yet, to all you artists; isn't that too easy? Where you can just select a shade of blue instead of taking lapiz lazui and deep ocre and mixing them together in just the right amounts to create a deep color to then work and paint a canvas as quickly and accurately before the paint becomes too dry to manipulate? Oh wow, digital art makes it "SO EASY" and it does. And on top of, this argument wasn't too far off when Photoshop just came out and many were complaining in the fashion industry of how "unrealistic" actors and celebrities were on Vogue magazine, and here we are years later and everyone is using Photoshop. In fact, photoshop as a skill is #1 in digital illustration and graphic design as a skill to get you hired on Indeed and LinkedIn, as it is now a standard.
So would AI become a tool in the same regard? No one is complaining about the artist that painted with acrylic and oils on cloth canvas, and his skills aren't in high demand either. Yet, between that of Canvas, and that of a Digital Medium, has any creativity really been lost, after all, would you really enjoy the thrill of mixing paints as a must have to still be creative? No... You gain nothing and lose nothing. You just seek creativity though yourself and your ideas, some ideas may flow better in other mediums than others and it is the process not the end result.
What I would argue though, elaborating on your point. "AI is reducing creativity to a press of a button" to paraphrase. Albeit one can create quickly an idea using simple text and a "press of a button" how is this really any different than, using college terms here, "Gesture Drawings", a quick scribble or sketch that conveys and idea or thought in illustration of what the final form is to be with out much variance or detail. Meant to be quick and expressive to convey the meaning behind the artists thoughts. AI can do this much quicker and faster than a person, but also they can add a lot more detail. Perhaps there where some might have an issue, but these details can either break or elaborate upon ones own vision and thus still be a tool to then refine and work upon so that vision of creativity can be saught.
