Until AI and automation can create a large enough surplus UBI will not be feasible. Getting rid of income and corporate taxes as well as increasing consumption-based taxes could help, too. This would tax people based on their lifestyles (expenditures) instead of on how much money they own as well as get taxes out of people that make money illegally. Fair tax act proposes this. A combination of these two things could work for the USA I think.
