My job is safe my boss had a very angry meeting with us one day a year or so back about how corporate wanted to replace all our production operations positions with robots well what they tested and found out is that robots in a setting that will follow the parameters of its job perfectly they can work circles around a person but the second it encounters a part that's damaged/defective or got knocked around on the line and doesn't show up in front of the robot aligned a specific way they freak the fuck out and break shit because it can't think for itself all it knows is do this specific job this specific way and it ends up like a toddler trying to smash a square peg into a round hole also it's easy to work on them when you have 10 master electricians and guys who work for the robot manufacturer on call in a big city you can trouble shoot stuff on the fly but out in the sticks when all you have is 10 half drunk millbilly's with duck tape and a ratchet set any minor malfunction or system error on something so complex you end up with a multimillion dollar piece of equipment locked out for days or sometimes even weeks before corporate can get around to sending someone with experience on the system to unfuck it also AI isn't real the same people calling to ask for your social security number and banking information to fix a virus are the same ones reviewing and updating those programs telling them what is and isn't true and what they can and can't say
