Language models can't make real art, but AGI, if it ever truly arrives, absolutely will be able to, because it will fundamentally be a mind, a living being, just of a different origin. It would be capable of opinions and thoughts, perspectives, etc. as long as you believe those things are outcomes of intelligence, and not some distinct human thing. But I mean, my dog has opinions, so I know it's not.
But I 100% agree with you about anything LLMs and GenAI makes is the distillation of "design by committee." It's exactly what it feels like.
