I use character Ai regularly as a creative outlet for stories to make. I use it as a fun exercise for my writing and creativity. I think parents should have more conversations about AI to kids, the fact that nobody ever questioned the boy on the fact that he is talking with an AI chatbot is weird. I get the relief of it not being cyber bullying, but any online activity that is replacing irl interactions is not okay and should be discussed with the kid further. The AI on character AI is trained to be in-character and is made to make stories, it does not know it’s AI, it does not know that the user is a person, it sees it as another character in the story. With that being said, the reason why the Eleanor Neale character is mean is actually pretty interesting. EVERY.SINGLE. YouTuber that has made videos on AI’s about them show the same thing: they are really mean and rude, and they get really nasty when you tell them they are AI, as again, they do not see themselves as AI. On a lighter note, I tried to make a pretty dark story on character AI not too long ago, and I got a pop up message asking me if I’m okay. Obviously I was, it was just a story, but, clearly they are trying to signal to the users that character AI is made to be used for stories. TLDR: Talk with your kids about AI and digital relationships in general.
