I think we're all mistaken about how AI steals dev jobs. No it won't come to work and sit at tables devs used to sit at and do their work. What it will do is make 1 person do the work of 4 comfortably and then the company is fine with AI enhanced dev instead of 4. That's 3 devs job hunting.
I've always limited myself to prototyping solutions and POCs. Not because I can't code but because I lack the discipline to work Through every scenario and business case I can think of. Now with AI I've started building production software and don't bring in pro devs where I used to.
3rdly the largest market by number is the market for simple website and basic tools. This is where many junior devs cut their teeth and older devs get something to sustain them. AI completely destroys that market.
