I push back a bit on the idea that the brain is just "in the brain", or at least there's not a good distinction between the brain and the rest of the body, and even the space and world around us--e.g. we can direct and park our cars so nimbly because with experience it becomes part of our brain's map of our body. We flinch when things are about to hit us. And, as you touch on, our brain's map of our body includes other people's as well, and language is such an inept model of the world. That it defies me to imagine how consciousness or intelligence could be attributed to LLMs. If they had bodies that integrated multiple senses into models of things in the world...that would seem warmer. An organism with only one sense can't really have a model of things in the world. We doubt sensations are "real" until we can reliably confirmed them using multiple senses.
