Long comment, here we go: If I'm being honest, I don't really make any art. I used to write but I never really got good, and didn't see any practical value in it, and ended up quitting. So I think I'm able to get into the mindset of this "blue blood of artistic talent" guy, and try to see the logic he's using. But some of this may be projecting, so take this wall of text with a grain of salt. He obviously doesn't think he can draw, or at least draw well, even if he tried, and that much is obvious. But because he himself typed in the prompt, because he himself used the Generative program, he still had an input. Thus, he can try to convince himself that he made the thing. (Even though, it's about as much effort as commissioning an actual artist, minus the payment.) Of course they'll project that AI art is theirs. it's for the same reason a poor person will buy a luxury car and a Rolex watch to look posh when in reality, they struggle to afford basic rent. They're trying to seem like something they think they aren't. After all, generated images look way better than anything they can make in Procreate or on a paper and pencil. It's the same reason I never posted any of my fics or old Autodesk Drawings. "Nevermind these people who actually make despite having messed up hands or wonky eyes, their stuff is still actually good! So they're better—god blessed them. Mine isn't, so I'll just post AI images instead. That's real art, right? It has to be, otherwise I'm not a good artist!" It's just self-hatred and comparison and the notion that some art is "good" or "has value" versus other art that doesn't. It's what we get when little kids post art like what the person in this video started showing about a minute in, and we shame them for being little kids in spaces for people with "actual talent" and crap like that. I'm 26, and that stuff is probably still more on-model or has a better sense of perspective than anything I might be able to make without tracing, and Lavendertowne was probably in middle school when she made that. AI is like a cop out for those of us who think we're too behind to ever catch up so we can try to delude ourselves into thinking we're on the same level as the real artists. Thankfully I see it for what it is. Just... Clicking a button and letting the machine to all the work. If I made something with AI, I wouldn't be proud because I don't consider it "making." The machine makes. But if I made something myself, I wouldn't be proud either, because it wouldn't be on the same level as what's seen everywhere online. So I don't use either. What really bothers me though, is if I worked for marketing or something, and the boss asked me to design a mascot or a logo or something, I'd probably use AI. Because it being good ultimately matters more than it being mine in most real life cases, right?
