I think all criminals and recreational drug users and drug addicts should be screened for ADHD. Most people have it are fine, especially with an early diagnosis. Late diagnosed adults like myself or undiagnosed adults like my brother who is now passed but we both satisfy the childhood symptoms but we both developed divergent lives. My brother passed and lived an unfortunate life of internalizing the behavioral control issues that are often not discussed or are minimized to the point of trivialization. I had always been conscientious as a youth and even as an adult. I found myself having behavior that I didn't understand or really have control over. Some of it caused me legal issues or job,career, relationship ending consequences. It could have been avoided if my brother was actually diagnosed and if I was diagnosed earlier. My mental health clinicians have even discriminated against me due to the unfortunate behavior control issues I have personal experience with. While I do take responsibility for the behavior it's a very difficult life to live when people around you cannot understand some of your behavior is not due to your personality and causes you a massive amount of distress and hatred for who you are. Having better understanding of the adult behavioral consequences of ADHD would really help. Even early diagnosed people with ADHD discriminate against what my truth is and the unfortunate truths that I'm sure other people live through while thinking that their behavior is what they wanted when in reality it's not and if it were possible they would have decided differently. People don't get that living with behavior you can't control is extremely difficult and is much easier when the person internalizes it. Yet that is when it's the most damaging for the people around them. Even undiagnosed adults with ADHD discriminate against the condition diagnosed or undiagnosed. Very sad reality. It's good to have some compassion and understanding for the true struggle that some people deal with even when others do not understand and cannot see the battle we have within ourselves.
