This is because startups an tech bros have somehow convinced companies like Microsoft that this is the next step in tech. And now companies are so high on AI that many of them actually believe that people want this.
The Generative AI industry is held up by continous and increasing investor funding. Can't remember where but read an economist saying that the Generative AI market needs to generate revenue in orders of magnitude more than it does right now just to keep it running.
It's not like Spotify that didn't generate any revenue for years because it actually didn't lose that much either. It would be more like the entire music industry relying on investor money just to keep getting new strings on guitars.
