Okay this comment ended up being way too long an essay but fuck it, posting it in full. Everything I've been learning about how AI has developed over the last few weeks has led me to a few terrifying conclusions/realizations : 1)There are even more idiotic people who have an open disdain of how consent works and willful ignorance of how damaging publicly available sexual material (fake or real) can be to a woman than I thought.They genuinely don't care and want to deny the damage it will do to her life, livelihood, relationships, and even safety (women have literally been murdered by people over being in sexual situations, including ones they had no choice in). Or they like blaming women for it. Or both.. 2) There is 100% a ton of deep fake AI kiddie porn out there made from random pictures of kids on social media. For all I know, there's deepfakes of my sister's kids out there. 3) It's almost certain that the only way we're going to see any sort of effective or significant action towards dealing with this on a national/international level is when a rich and prominent man ends up deepfaked to look like they're raping, assaulting, and/or abusing someone. I have a very long and drawn out explanation as to why it will probably have to be that exact scenario that will require enough people to take this seriously and take real action: Note, I did not say "a man ends up getting deepfaked." Aside from the fact that that already exists, BI also say this because it can't just be any person, be any man, or be just deepfake porn. This will happen to bunch of Average Joes and Janes without there being federal legislation that actually gets enforced. It's going to have to be a rich and powerful person specifically for real measures to be taken. The government isn't going to do much until someone with the resources to power an army of lobbyists and pundits is affected. Class is simply a huge factor here. Don't believe me? Look at the penalty disparities of white collar vs blue collar crimes. Look at the various causes that only started getting real attention after someone with wide-reaching influence was affected by it. Average Joe is not going to see that sort of action or advocacy just for him. It's going to have to happen to someone with not only absurdly deep pockets, but major political and economic clout. A high level industrialist or politician, most likely. And yes, it will almost definitely be a man who will have to be the victim. I know people are going to claim I'm being sexist here, but it does come down to the different fucked up ways we react to men vs women as victims of this sort of shit. Women are doubted (as in, suspected of lying) and punished more. Men are dismissed (as in, the idea that what happened to them could even be a violation is dismissed) and mocked more. The reason that person is almost definitely going to have to be a man, because as we've seen in this case and way too many other similar incidents, the sexual humiliation of a woman is literally a sport to much of the public and media. And if you don't believe me about this, go look up a press conference some right wing nutjob did claiming Elizabeth Warren had a boytoy Marine sex slave. When the guy was asked "what about trump's affairs?" The answer was, "Well, Trump is a very masculine and virile man blah blah blah..." Look how many people right now are trying to put the blame on these women. Look how Megan Thee Stallion's sexual history was released to the public amidst the Tony Lanez trial all because HE SHOT HER and the people trying to justify that bullshit. Tearing down women over sexual indiscretions real or fake is an international past time. Downfalls by sex for women are the norm. We're comfortable with that. Women are supposed to have sexual downfalls while men are supposed to have sexual triumphs. Which is why it will have to be some sort of sex or DV related crime in these images. Because of how men are treated. While people tend to make a sport out of tearing down women for sexual shit, for men it's different (not BETTER, necessarily, just different.) While it's true that women still get the motherload of the sexual double standard, there are still fucked up mentalities we apply to men specifically with sex that are at play here as well. Specifically the idea that men are more inherently sexual and just always open to sex and that's just their natural state, as opposed to women, who have to be the gatekeepers and the ones with all the self control. Which is why mere deepfake porn of a prominant man isn't going to be enough. Because much of the time, sexual activity from a man is seen as a) some sort of bragging right or triumph, b) thus, not a real violation and c) also thus some sort of joke. Don't believe me? Even TODAY, whenver a case of a female teacher raping an underage male student, you'll STILL see countless comments calling the victim "lucky" or questioning his masculinity for NOT being happy about being raped by an older woman. I don't know if y'all remember this, but a few years ago there was a video clip of someone who look a LOT like Logan Paul (it wasn't him, but it looked like him), getting roughly throatfucked. Everyone, including Paul, treated it like a joke and moved on. Even in this video Charlie joking about Deepfakes of himself. Yes, this is in part because women are more aggressively and commonly affected and more harshly judged for any sort of sexual activity, but it's also because it's just inherently seen as not that humiliating for a man anyways. See also: the trajectory of Pamela and Tommy Lee's careers post-sex tape. To this day people are congratulating the man on the size of his dick and his sexual prowess. The dude who leaked the tape literally said that Tommy Lee should "thank him" for the tape "reviving his career." And, yes, thanks to sexist double standards, it's true his career did well while Pamela's was destroyed, but also, TOMMY WAS STILL THE VICTIM OF A SEX CRIME. but isn't it all so funny? why wouldn't you want your sex life broadcast to the world?! After all, that's just evidence of what a MAN you are! So no, people are not going to take mere fake porn of a dude as seriously because the proverbial "we" don't see the sexual violation of a man that serious (yes, I know there's tons of people who very much do not see it that way, but that is the general cultural attitude). One thing that will automatically gain concern and sympathy for a man in sexual situation, however? False assault allegations/accusations. Punishment for sex or domestic crimes they did not commit. People are always ready to worry about that. Always. If Ted Cruz is deepfaked into stepmom porn, it'll just be a joke, along with him being faked into gay porn or whatever. It's so funny!!!!! However, what's the worst thing that can happen to a man in regards to sex? Not rape or assault, oh noooo! That's something that happens to WOMEN, not MEN, silly! Once a man reaches puberty, sexual encounters are just supposed to happen! No, the worst thing that can happen to a man in regards to sex or relationships is having his life torn apart by a fake rape, assault, or DV accusation! In fact, we take this so seriously that no matter what the evidence, there will be people 100% certain that any man accused of rape/assault/abuse MUSt be the victim of a smear campaign! Ian Watkins' girlfriend went to the police WITH THE CHILD PORN IMAGEs HE SENT HER to get him off the streets multiple times and the police dismissed her EVERY TIME because they decided she was lying based on nothing other than she was an ex-girlfriend and also an ex-sex worker. Thus they let a violent literal baby rapist get away with it for years despite the evidence literally being tossed in their lap because they decided that the woman accusing him of a sex crime was probably lying (she was a WHORE, after all!) (In fact, said girlfriend? The one who spent years desperately collecting information and bringing it to the police numerous times trying to bring Watkins to justice? Yeah, well, she ended up getting brought up on CSAM charges for having CSA images in her possesion. Yes, the very materal she kept BRINGING TO THE POLICE STATION TO GET THEM TO ARREST HIM.THE STUFF SHE SPECIFICALLY TOLD THEM SHE WAS GOING TO START COLLECTING TO PROVE THAT SHE WASN'T LYING. IT STILL WASN'T ENOUGH AND SHE GOT PUNISHED FOR IT. The charges were dropped, but only after a major outcry) We fear men being falsely accused so much that police departments will literally have images of a man raping little children dropped in their laps and let him continue violently raping small children for years out of belief it was a "false accusation." We fear false accusations so much that even in cases of convicted proven rapists who have been filmed or recorded raping people and/or have been discovered ADMITTING TO IT will still have people treating them as the real victim of some vicious smear campaign.The fear of false accusation is the reason women are so often treated with suspicion and doubt when they come forward. We fear men being falsely accused more than we fear them becoming rapists. THAT is taken seriously! False acusations and falsified evidence of a man committing a sex crime is something that the public at large will be nigh-unanimously happy to mobilize against. Those are the circumstances that will make the government get off their asses and do something about it on a broad scale. I really, really hope I'm wrong about this. HOPEFULLY we won't have to wait for a Senator to be falsely accused of rape while countless people have their lives ruined for something effective to be done. But I'm pretty sure that's what's going to happen, if we get any real action at all. And even then, it might be too late, like, most revenge porn laws.
