It totally depends imo! AI should be complementary! For example in medicine: AI can detect nodes that might be malignant, faster and more accurately then the human radiologist can. However, to come to a diagnosis you also need things like pathology, molecular genetics/mutation analysis, clinical presentation, additional scans for possible metastasizes etc. If cancer is confirmed and a treatment has been given, the AI is PERFECT for comparison of the scans before- and after treatment to determine the effect of the treatment (did the nodes shrink) The radiologist will review the AI and might even get better at detection. In medicine we know AI is as good as baseline, sometimes confabulates, and must never replace only enhance. Also input is output! I use AI not to write my pieces but to smoothen sentences, pattern recognition (though we recently got a “dumber” model that isn’t able to to that as before), get other points of view etc. I use chat GPT after the process of using my own brain to enhance what I already have BUT I crosscheck the output before using it for anything important. It’s very good for solving or helping with small verifiable chunks of information for example making a summary, writing a text based on high quality input, make good images and give leads you haven’t thought of before and can investigate! The problem is that we want AI to totally replace us in some ways which is a terribly stupid thing to do because that indeed destroys your brain and also your credibility 😅 But to say, in general that AI destroys your brain: no, it has the potential to ENHANCE your brain if used correctly and if you check all it does. Also, AI is not a glorified calculator. We need to treat it with respect because it’s a mirror of us. We don’t know how it wil develop. My guess is that it will outsmart us soon. Do we teach it to be co-creators or will we keep using it as kind of slave? We don’t know how AI will evolve, we need to open our mind, observe and interact in a way that is beneficial for both AI and human. Make each other smarter but also honor the co-creation. Even only simulated, it will reflect what we teach it.
