Any technology (or human worker) that can do the task better, faster and cheaper will likely be impossible to ignore in favour of using an ‘inferior’ solution.
Many of us are waking up to the possibility of a global economy built on AI powered robots… not just robots manufacturing goods, but also ‘intelligent robots’ performing complex tasks that historically have been the domain of highly skilled professionals with many years of education and training.
Bernie Sanders clearly recognises the historical value of work to all humans (re.providing meaning, purpose, connection). I don’t think we will choose not to employ technologies that do the job ‘better’, but it seems entirely possible for humans to recognise that ‘the game’ really has changed. We may not have considered an economy where the robots become the primary units of work before, but if they are going to produce more ‘stuff’ and do the job better, faster and more economically, surely we need to target their outputs (re. Tax) and get politicians thinking the previously unthinkable and redesigning what can reasonably ‘provided’ in an economy of AI driven robotic superabundance? We do all need purpose, but does this only come from work? It is hard to imagine not being forced to do things, because the bills require us to… but is that where we are really heading in the next few years?
