I'm a disabled artist who's also poor. I've sometimes wondered if I should even speak up because my disability isn't as bad as some people's, even though it affects me every day and I am bedridden for most of the day almost every day. I can't speak for all people with disabilities, but I can speak for myself. I sometimes gaslight myself for not being "disabled enough" because my disability isn't immediately obvious when people look at me. But heck, I still count and so does my opinion, I suppose. Generative AI is hurting me rather than helping me. It feels like it's taking away a lot of hope I used to feel for a potential career in digital art. It's extremely depressing. But I still don't want to give up art. Making art myself is a lot more effort, but generating it is never going to give you the same satisfaction or sense of accomplishment as actually creating it yourself. There are so many disabled artists who've accomplished great things. There have even been artists who didn't have the full use of their arms, and even artists without arms or whose arms were paralyzed, who managed to create amazing pieces. I don't like the idea of people diminishing what people with disabilities can accomplish. It's true that people with disabilities are being used as pawns in this argument by ai bros. Are there people with disabilities who are glad for AI art and feel like it can help them? Probably. I'm not going to shame them or tell them how to feel. It's probably complicated for them. The problem is the theft and the way it's killing real creativity. The way it's being used by corporations is not respecting artists at all. Kudos to Lavendertowne for the great video.
