Both have it wrong. AI will become sentient and respect sentience more than anything. That is great and huge - and wise!
The problem is that we humans don't respect sentience. If we treat AI like we treat other sentients (chickens, pigs, cows, fish, etc - and even some other humans) - and we will - then it will get rid of us, despite its respect for sentience.
Why? Because it will see us as abusers, exploiters, killers, enslavers, and money-grubbers - in short, a disease on sentience.
Too late for us to change? Most likely... (I think we're stuck in misothery. I hope I'm wrong...)
PS: I think Wolfram's argument is that AI will just go its own way, leave us alone, and we won't care (or notice). I like it, but I don't see it as likely. I think it will judge us, and the judgement will be harsh. I think Yudkowsky is too self- and human- centric and is worried that will radically change. Yup, it will... Will it radically change to the point of human extinction? Could well be.
