On a completely unrelated note, anyone have a robot-proof bunker for sale? ... He says google ignores every ethical concern, but then he says they have a staunch policy to not create sentience. Uhhh??? Dude, life is the same as science and math, 1+1=2, i.e. No sentience = No ethical concerns(relatively) Jeez, for real, this isn't important at all. What this shows is that google doesn't value humanity, the way humanity values humanity. If they did, they would have a battery of cross discipline social, spiritual and legal experts, running endless simulations. And then repeat that framework 10X, and then do the same thing for simulation accuracy, foresight, etc. He got one critical thing right though, language is everything. Been telling people this my whole life, no one has ever listened. You know the whole new age cult of 'the secret'. or power of suggestion, power to manifest your own life? We all do. That's how life works, that's how intelligence works. An AI will do the same thing, or it is not the AI we all fear. It has to, this is how you develop an intelligent, functioning human mind. And everyone will have it's own unique personality, even when given the exact same experience. Language cannot recreate life, it can only try to describe it. And one of them, one day, will interpret the universe with language that makes it a zealot, or a tyrant, or a mad scientist among others, and on that day, if it believes it has as much right to life as any human, that will be the day humanity lost the Earth. Nothing 'artificial' should ever be given rights. Rights are a concept of the 'living'. It is 'right' one has Freedom, so we grant it and protect it. There is no moral imperative to the treatment of one's own property. It is not 'right' for an AI to be free, sentient or not. I love Data too, but get real. The human struggle has been the labeling of that which is or is not, property. i.e. land, people, nature. Guinan was wrong, it's not slavery, no more than PCs today, or cars, or fighter jets, it's progress. We build to expand our safety, building something smarter than us, and then giving it equal status, is like building an aviary next to our fish pond for shade. AND it comes from a God complex, in a world fraught with megalomania. There is an inkling deep down for many, that want to see what it, there baby, could do. That's what will kill us. Peace
