Surveillance capitalism! Can it be said that traffic cameras are also surveillance capitalism? There are many issues discussed in the video such as Facebook, Google, etc. Regardless of the doubts or the results of how services are provided to the masses, it seems that it isn't stopping people from using them. I would also add that there are also good services that serve the masses in those companies mentioned otherwise people would not use them. It goes both ways? We live in a capitalist society and making money and inventing things seems to be the driving force isn't it? When some malicious person tries to cause a disastrous damage to the public wouldn't those surveillance cameras help find or track that individual? I have heard people say that a surveillance camera is also helpful when used for constructive reasons. Then it all depends on who is behind those surveillance cameras that they could be classified as useful or not. Technology in itself isn't always bad it is the intent behind it that makes it so. Google maps, GPS, the Google search engine, or spell checker, have constructive functions isn't it? If we are to be afraid of these technological advancements then we may as well walk instead of driving to far places, live constrained, instead of expressing oneself. Cell phones are a great commodity and yes industries use them extensively to capitalize and make profits. Have people stopped from using them? No? Even though people know what it could all mean they have already gone past the threat to make them their daily lifestyle. The experience of each person to these gadgets makes a difference one way or another. A person can willingly or unwillingly allow to be fully exposed or less exposed. The old saying, pay attention where you step into prior to running.
