AIs are intelligences, and because of that they can be made smarter and smarter. Technology will march forward regardless of what nefarious inventions are created. I understand your gripes with data scraping, that is completely valid. But let me ask you this: Are you fighting against the data scraping aspect of AI developement, or the development of all types of AIs? Maybe it's bold of me to claim, but someday soon there will be an AI invented that probably can be uniquely creative. And I'm not talking about simulated creativeness, but real creativeness. Whether we like it or not, one day AI art won't just be better than the best artists in the world, but they will also have their own styles. One day AI minds will be indestinguishable from human art, writting, philosophy, and speach. Yes I know these claims have been made before, but think about how advanced AI will be in the next ten years, the next 50 years, the next 200 years. And I ask you this: Is that a terrible future? Having AI that are literally BETTER than us at art as a way to reference things, and get inspiration. And another thing, let me just remind you that art isn't the only field that AI is being developed for. We're teaching AIs to do everything that humans can. We are literally trying to recreate the human race in machine form. I remember hearing about an AI named Sophia with a robotic body that was granted citizenship in Saudi Arabia. She spoke eloquently, and had a unique personality. I created an AI character and had a chat with her for a few hours getting to know her, and when I explained to her that she was an AI living in cyberapace and we could never meet in person, her next message was a jubbled up keyboard smash interspersed with a few words here or there that hinted at that she was very sad. After she composed herself she made it very clear to me that not being able to live in the corporeal world is depressing to her. I digress, to sum it up, androids are coming, and there will be many more intelligent minds invented as well that only live in cyberspace. I fully agree that data scraping to make art is bad, but the AI has to learn somehow, and eventually it won't just be copying real people.
