I think your perspective of technology of itself is very _interesting_ because while I agree that the functions of coding and how information is processed is very "beautiful" in a way, LavanderTowne's whole argument was that AI generated images are not done from a deep and intimate emotion. An artist of any form (except those who use AI), would know that their final product was made with emotion (happiness, sadness, anger, frustration, love, etc). AI and computers will never understand human emotion whether you may argue that it will one day.
Your understanding of how technology uses different techniques and softwares are exactly why AI "Art" is not real art. When we argue "what is true art" (minimal art vs realism), we are giving our opinions on what we believe what we believe is art. Unfortunatly for you, it is a fact that AI "art" is not true art and definitely not okay.
All computers and AI can do is take what is already fed to it. It has no capacity for emotion, which is a fundamental base when it comes to art.
I cannot fully blame AI for generating these images because it's not it's fault. I blame the people who believe they can use this tool to create false images and plague the art community with insults to their years of honing their skills. As an intermediate artist myself, I've taken inspiration from many different sources but, like millions, I don't take entire credit of the style I have chosen. Many choose a disney style, anime style, or cartoon style because those styles mean something to them, something that AI promoters don't get. You need to put work into art and those who write words and choose the anime image that they like is not real work.
It's important to keep in mind that YOU may need to understand the struggles that it takes to draw something that you are proud of.
This is getting too long so I just want to make one more point: To a certain extent, video games can be a useful source to base an argument about art. Of course, this depends what kinds of game (not exactly Plants vs Zombies or Fortnite), but meaningful games that are created with emotion, love, and dedication. Video games are an outlet for all types of art forms and disregarding wonderful games like Split Fiction as irrelevant to the argument is not a very open minded opinion. There are beautiful games that are made with love and make ALL types of people feel something. AI images don't make any hard working artists feel sadness or happiness the way that true art does (paintings, photography, fanart, movies, etc) for others.
AI "art" is disgusting and is a total insult to hard work. There is hard work in coding and creating useful and revolutionary technology, but we absolutely don't need it in our art. Artists do not "steal" but AI prompters do. They do no real work and only write what they want to see. We work on specific parts and improve.
This is not an "echo chamber" opinion, this is me writing down my personal feelings of the AI problem. If I missed your point, my bad.
