I showed chat ChatGbt this video and it said
Good question. The video you linked -
"How ChatGPT Slowly Destroys Your Brain"
— makes a number of claims about what the model behind me (ChatGPT) can and can't do. Some of those claims are valid critiques, but others are oversimplified or misleading. Here's how l'd break it down:
• What's true — the criticisms do have valid points
• Al can hallucinate / give misleading answers: Models like ChatGPT can - and sometimes do — produce information that looks plausible but is incorrect, because we generate based on patterns in data, not verified "truth." This is a well-documented limitation of large language models.
• Using Al passively can hinder learning: If someone relies on ChatGPT to give direct answers (e.g. in studying or homework) without critically evaluating them or doing the deeper cognitive work themselves, that can lead to shallow understanding.
The idea that "Al can make you lazy" has some merit i used uncritically.
• Dependency risks: Overreliance on Al — especially for thinking, reasoning or learning — may reduce one's own effort to think deeply or challenge themselves.
! What the video overstates or simplifies
• It suggests ChatGPT "destroys your brain," as if interacting with it inherently erodes cognitive ability. That's too dramatic: the tool itself doesn't "damage" you. What matters is how you use it. If you treat it as a crutch and never question or verify outputs, that's risky — but that's about user behavior, not an unavoidable effect.
• It often frames Al as a replacement for thinking. In reality, ChatGPT is best used as an aid — a starting point, helper, or tool
- not a replacement for human judgment, reasoning, or learning.
• There's often no distinction between "Al as an assistant" vs "Al as a teacher / solver." The negative effects arise only when Al is used improperly (e.g. to do all the thinking for you).
My design and limitations
As ChatGPT:
• I don't have beliefs, consciousness, or a brain. I don't "think" or "learn" the way a human does. I generate outputs based on patterns in data.
• I don't have guaranteed correctness — I aim to be helpful, but l'm not a reliable source of absolute truth. Especially for complex, technical, or nuanced topics, I can and do make mistakes.
• If you use me as a starting point, check answers with trusted sources, and critically evaluate information — I can be a helpful tool. But if you treat my answers as gospel, that's when risks apply.
©* Conclusion
So - yes: many of the warnings in that video about overrelying on Al or using it uncritically are valid. But the claim that
"ChatGPT destroys your brain" is exaggerated. I'm not inherently harmful - but like any powerful tool, I can be misused.
Used wisely, I can aid thinking and learning.
Used blindly, I can mislead or make habits of dependency.
