I don't think it's impossible to build a machine superintelligence, but I'm not convinced LLMs specifically are capable of becoming one. The invention of the airplane allowed us to get a bit closer to the moon, but an airplane can't actually get to the moon, and there were 66 years between the invention of the airplane and the moon landing.
